Statement
Failing to meet the unrealistic standards set by society is a devastating experience, leaving one feeling like a consolation prize. The American female form is often scrutinized and subjected to unfair and unrealistic standards, especially concerning weight. These societal pressures can lead to a sense of powerlessness over one's own body, fueling feelings of self-hatred.
However, it is essential to recognize that the power of one's own body can be harnessed as an act of revolution that can bring about transformative change. Unfortunately, the fat body is often seen as both repulsive and fetishized, considered an "other" that should be avoided or used as a sexual curiosity. This contradiction is one that I seek to challenge through this body of work, which involves using my physical identity to question the societal norms and expectations surrounding the fat body.
Through my work, I aim to bring greater visibility for those traditionally marginalized and excluded from the mainstream. By challenging the dichotomy of the fat body as both repulsive and fetishized, I aim to inspire others to embrace their bodies and reject the unrealistic standards that are constantly imposed upon them. Rejecting society's unrealistic standards, one can celebrate their body for what it is - a stunning, unique, and empowering form of self-expression. This approach challenges the dominant narrative and marks a shift towards body positivity and inclusivity.
